Business Coaching – Why / What / How etc

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Business Coaching has been a growing phenomenon over the last several years and many people have taken advantage of the opportunity to grow their business using the assistance a coach can offer.  There has also been substantial growth in the number of coaches offering their services.

What does a Business Coach do?  Like a coach of a sporting team or individual the Business Coach enables the one being coached to use more of their innate talents, achieve more in less time and reach greater heights.

It is natural to wonder how a coach might help; what a coach might do; and how one might help.  All valid questions and all deserving of answers.

Some more questions;
?         Are you a new business; or
?         Does your existing business lack clear goals or direction
?         Are your staff disorganised; or do they lack motivation
?         Do you wonder where your ‘bottom line’ went

As your Business Coach my experience in various businesses from all sorts of ‘start’ positions can help you;
ü  Explore your potential;
ü  Gain clarity on what you really want;
ü  Determine the options available;
ü  Establish plans which can then be worked through; &
ü  Then help you celebrate achieving your growth and your goals.

The first thing you need in business is a Business Plan.  Have you got one?  Seen it lately?  Without a clear vision of where you are going and the appropriate mechanisms, procedures and policies to ensure you can achieve your objectives, you risk losing control.

As part of your Business Plan identify:
ü  Key skills - from which you will identify key strategies;
ü  Weaknesses and strengths within your organisation;
ü  Opportunities for you to grow your sphere of influence
Knowing these things helps you arrive at where you want to be more quickly, with the least amount of stress and hardship.

Every minute spent in planning saves ten minutes in execution. The purpose of planning is to increase your returns; the return on the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual capital you have invested in your life, your career, your business.

Wondering why various unhelpful things are happening in your life or your business?  Get a real plan and have real control of your business and your life!  Eliminate errors and negative unhelpful activities; take charge of your success.  Surround yourself with someone who will concentrate ‘with’ you on ‘your’ success.

Reviewing Performance

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

New Year is on the way.  Will you set yourself some New Year Resolutions?
Any resolution has the potential of being a good thing for your well being, peace of mind and just generally helping with your prosperity.  However, a resolution made on a whim, rather than a thorough examination of your inner dreams, wants, skills and abilities isn’t as likely to deliver you long term benefit.
With the approaching slow down in business activity which normally surrounds the Christmas and New Year period, let’s take a moment or two to run a little review of where we are relative to our expectations and goals.

Why review?  When we make plans about how and what we propose to achieve, it is generally understood that without following the plans with ‘action’ nothing will happen.  The action is an integral part of achieving the objectives but without a review, how can we evaluate what we have actually done?

What actions did we undertake?  What was the outcome of the action?  Did it provide what we expected?  Did we expend a lot of energy on actions which were never going to provide the result we wanted?  In other words, did we undertake the activities which would give us our expected result or did we spend our time on activities quite useless in terms of providing the high objectives we set ourselves?

Ensure you spend your time on the activities which will deliver the desired result.  Every aspect of your business is important; some things though, can be left till later.  Deal first with those things critical to making your business the success you want it to be.

Business does one of two things; ‘It grows, or it dies’.  Is your business growing?

Surviving the Christmas Slump

Sunday, November 29, 2009

That period called ‘Yuletide’ is now approaching; this is the period 24th December through 6th January.  This period incorporates New Year, the time when many set new ‘resolutions’ for themselves.  How many of these resolutions make it past day 3?

This period is often a slower time for businesses and can be used as a time to reflect on the recent past, evaluate the result of actions taken and plan the actions necessary to take you to your goals.  Goals?!  Do you have any?

Let’s look at those next time – for now let’s look at an exciting opportunity which is placed before businesses at this time every year; the opportunity to excel at Customer Service.  How many in business take seriously the value of Customer Service?

Customer Service is a key portion of your business behaviour and will see you rise or fall in direct proportion to how you perform in providing Customer Service.  At its simplest Customer Service is simply providing good service to your customer, yet many businesses seem to have difficulty with this concept.  Critique your own performance and give yourself a score, just as you would critique someone who was providing a service to you.  How did you rate……?

There’s no great mystery to satisfying your customers.  Give them a quality product and treat them with respect.  It’s that simple.”  Lee Iacocca, former executive of Ford & Chrysler

It really is that simple.  Think about how much you value your customer.  Do you show them the respect they deserve?  If you don’t, try harder or find out how to provide the level of service your customer deserves and you will see your business grow at unbelievable speed and deliver you wondrous results.
